We’re Back!

Hello! We are back with some updates on Don't Mind If!

Since publishing the book in March 2022, other aspects of life have crept up on us, reclaiming the time we've spent analysing the findings and putting together the book. Don't Mind If has been on a necessary hiatus, but it has never left our minds.

One of our favourite parts about working on putting together "Don't Mind If I Ask" was collecting opinion articles from members of the community to archive their experiences working within and alongside the communication design industry as freelancers, fresh graduates, employees and business owners.

Some who had their hands on a copy of the book also shared that they enjoyed these stories and felt that their experiences were captured and articulated through someone else's words. We found great comfort in knowing that the book has succeeded in providing alternative perspectives and possibilities.

We are still interested and committed to sharing the stories and experiences of those who labour in it. We've been avid followers of Our Tender Deeds and have found much inspiration and comfort through Stella's thoughtful writing and introduction, which gives us a peek into the different creative journeys taken by the individuals she interviews.

Our Tender Deeds is an interview series by Stella about creative lives, celebrating our inspired follies and navigation of artistic pursuits. Each interviewee answers ten questions and shares snippets of their life through a disposable camera.

We are thus thrilled to continue this journey with a collaboration with Stella from Our Tender Deeds!

This collaboration is also our attempt to respond to insights we've gleaned from Don't Mind if I Ask. Through the survey, we learnt that 66-77% of the students, fresh graduates, employees and freelancers respondents were female; however, business owners were 62.8% male. We observed that the media still often rely on business owners to represent the industry, and more could be done to document the stories of others who live and work in this community. In preparation for this collaboration, there is a deliberate effort to prioritise and champion female representation of all work arrangements. Through this series, we aim to amplify the variety of roles female creatives occupy in this industry and community. We are also proud to share that Don't Mind If's female creative, Pixie spearheaded this initiative!

Do keep an eye out as we publish these stories. We would also love to know what you think and who you'd like to hear from in this series, so email us with your thoughts and suggestions!

xx
